Writing tip #19) The muse lives in the basement

Post by Mitu100@ »

Many authors wait for the “muse”, for inspiration.

Stephen King doesn't say they don't exist. They do exist.

However, she doesn't just flutter into your room. You have to go to her. You have to go to the basement and fight your way to her. You have to do the dirty work and only then will you meet the muse.

In other words: The muse comes to those who work hard and not to those who sit on the couch and watch Netflix.

This tip is obvious. Nevertheless, very few authors and bloggers follow this rule.

Many people write and write – and don't realize that they are only using clichés. Why? Because they don't read good texts, they think their texts are good.

There is simply no comparison. There is no experience.

Stephen King even puts it this way: “If you don’t have time to read, you don’t have time to write.”

A little tip: Audiobooks also help. Stephen King listens to about 6 to 12 audiobooks per year.
