TOEarlier this week, Mark Zuckerberg surprised the Meta community by announcing a sweeping change to its content moderation system , sparking a wide range of opinions . One of the most talked-about measures is that fact-checkers will be replaced by a community ratings system similar to X's.

According to Zuckerberg , fact-checkers " have been too politically biased and have destroyed more trust than they have created ." This is why telegram data have decided to discontinue the system that Meta has been using for nine years. This measure will first be implemented in the US and will gradually be extended to other countries.

For their part, verification agencies and fact-checking professionals have expressed their outright rejection of Meta's decision. To better understand this conflict, let's learn what fact-checkers are and how they work.

How fact-checkers work
In 2016, Meta launched its independent fact-checking program , recruiting fact-checkers in various countries around the world. The tech giant currently works with more than 100 fact-checkers, certified by the IFCN (International Fact-Checking Network) or the EFCSN (European Fact-Checking Standards Network).
