History of the cloud: what it is and how it all began

In this text we aim to explain the origins of a concept as revolutionary as “ the cloud ”, a term that has ceased to be used technically and has entered the public domain. In the explanation we will use the five basic questions that every good story must answer, the famous 5 Ws (what, how, when, where & why).

What is the cloud
Let's start by explaining what the cloud is and what it isn't. Obviously, it's not what spoils your Easter holidays, nor is it the vehicle in which Goku traveled to meet his enemies in Dragon Ball. Perhaps if Goku were a handful of data, the image would serve as a metaphor. The cloud, in computer terms, has to do with the network of servers hosted on the Internet.

The cloud refers to data storage and transfer software and services that run on the Internet, rather than locally on your computer. It allows you to operate with this data on the network without having to accumulate hard drives at home. These services can be accessed through most browsers and among the most popular are: Google Drive, Apple iCloud, Netflix, Dropbox and Microsoft OneDrive.

One of the great advantages of the cloud is that users can access this information, which they themselves have generated or received, from any device with an Internet connection. How the cloud was created
To understand how the cloud works – its architecture – it is worth thinking of this system as two separate parts, the front end and the back end. Both parts need to work in synergy within the Internet.

Cloud technology
The front end is the user's computer or computer network and the program used to access the cloud. When it comes to emails, it is easy to access them because all you need is an Internet browser, such as Google Chrome, Internet Explorer or Mozilla. In other cases, however, it is necessary to have a specialized application to access them.

At the back end , on the other hand, we have the computers, servers and data storage systems that make up the cloud ; each application usually has its own server. A server is responsible for controlling and managing traffic so that customer demand is met. Finally, to ensure that data will always be accessible, cloud computing systems have at least twice as many devices as necessary to store it and make backup copies in different locations.
