An intranet has a big impact on everyone in your organization. It is therefore important that employees can submit their wishes (or requirements) for the new platform. Whether you are a relatively small, growing organization or a multinational with multiple locations, there will be different wishes.

It is therefore important that these wishes are properly inventoried and prioritized. During the process, you do not want to constantly go through the entire list of wishes with your entire organization. That is why it is wise to translate the goal of the new intranet into a mission statement.

What is a mission statement?
A mission statement for a project briefly and concisely reflects the essence and objectives of your project. You use the mission statement during the project to test whether you are on track. You use it with your project team to make decisions about whether or not to implement functionality. You also justify the choices you have made to stakeholders.

The big advantage of this approach is that you can focus on the big picture during the project, and not get bogged down in discussions about details. When in doubt, you test your choices against the mission statement.

When writing a mission statement for your project, keep the following points in mind.

1. Base the mission statement on the input of your colleagues
Map out the wishes together argentina telegram number list with your colleagues and identify the central themes. Do this by asking colleagues about their wishes through a survey or, if possible, a face-to-face session.

Look at where the overlap lies, but also take into account the different wishes. What is a must for your IT department may not be relevant for marketing. Therefore, make your mission statement broad enough to connect with all parties involved, but provide space to facilitate specific wishes.

2. Incorporate key terms
Make sure that the key terms from the input of your colleagues are well summarized. Incorporate these terms into the mission statement. For an intranet, it is important that you set up these terms relatively broadly. Think of terms that relate to communication and collaboration. In addition, you supplement these terms for specific tasks or objectives within your organization.

For an international organization that was spread across multiple locations, it was important that a sense of togetherness was created with the new intranet. When the mission statement was drawn up, it was not yet clear how exactly this would be achieved. However, it was important enough to be explicitly mentioned in the mission statement. You can see this in the last sentence of the mission statement below.

“Our intranet creates a searchable , interactive and personalized environment with high usability that improves communication , collaboration and business efficiency and leads to a one firm mentality .”

Leave space
In addition, you will also see the examples of the other key terms. With such a description, you determine direction, but you are not yet working on a functional level. This means that the frameworks can be filled in during the process. With such a description, you also prevent colleagues from thinking in terms of functions; you give the project team room to give substance to the wishes. In this way, you are acting agile.

Then check with your colleagues whether you have summarized the wishes correctly. This is the last opportunity to ask for this check before you finalize the mission statement.

3. Keep it short and sweet
A mission statement should not be more than two to three sentences long. You can of course include a lot of terms in it, but make sure it remains clear. Ideally, you print your mission statement on an A4 and hang it in your project room. This way, you always keep the focus on the end goal clear.
