Etiquette and communication guidelines in Slack
Conversations, when completed virtually, can become informal, leading to misunderstandings or a loss of professionalism. That's why it's important to set certain guidelines that encourage respectful interactions. Here's what you can set for appropriate Slack use.

When replying to a specific message in a busy channel, reply in a conversation thread

Use @mentions carefully; tag only those who are essential to the conversation

Avoid sarcasm or jokes that can be misinterpreted, especially in intercultural teams

Avoid @channel or @everyone unless absolutely necessary as it can disrupt the entire team

Avoid long-winded messages; get straight to the point to make your communication more effective

Since Slack is asynchronous by nature, use the message priority feature or the Mark as Urgent option if immediate action is required

Set your status when you're away or busy; use the Do Not Disturb feature when you need uninterrupted time to work

Format your messages with bullets, bold, and italics for clarity; for code or long text, use the code block
