A new look at social networks

At first I thought, ‘Great! Let’s create a huge 3D virtual reality world.’ I spent a couple of weeks looking at the possibilities and the time frame, and I realized there was no way we could do it,” Blumenfeld says. “I still wanted to try, but it just wasn’t possible.”
Burning Man is a massive event that is important to many residents of Silicon Valley and San Francisco, where it was first held in 1986. So it's no surprise that many community members volunteered to help when Burning Man announced it was going digital.
“More than 14,000 people have said they would like to contribute to the creation of a virtual Black Rock City,” says Kim Cook, Burning Man’s director of arts and civic engagement. “About a thousand of them venezuela number data have said they are ready to get involved in the development.”
Several companies offered to help create a digital Burning Man in exchange for official branding. Despite their precarious financial situation, the organizers declined, citing their commitment to “detovarization”—the desire to keep corporations, advertising, and branded stages out of the festival. Instead, they chose to partner with small indie teams willing to develop systems for the event in their spare time.
As a result, eight projects have become official “recognized universes,” each embodying their own vision of what a virtual Burning Man should look like. While some teams have focused on virtual reality, others are creating a more sophisticated version of video chat or adding a 3D environment on top of existing platforms like Second Life or Microsoft AltspaceVR.
