Hey, everyone. Welcome to this week’s edition of Whiteboard Friday. My name is Cameron Jenkins, and I’m the SEO Wordsmith here at Moz. Today we’re going to talk about a goal-based approach to cameroon number data a domain type or domain selection.
There are a lot of questions in the SEO industry right now, and as an agency, I used to work at an agency, and many times our clients would ask us, “Should I do a microsite? Should I do a subdomain? Should I consolidate all my sites?” There’s a lot of confusion about the SEO implications of all these different types of domain choices, and there are certainly SEO implications for each type, but today we’re going to take a slightly different approach and focus on the goals first. What are your business goals? What are your goals for your website? What are your goals for your customers? And then choosing a domain that aligns with those goals. Ultimately, instead of what’s best for SEO, we’re going to hopefully answer, “What’s best for my unique goals?”
Before we begin, let's start with some quick definitions so we all know what we're talking about and why we're going to use all those different terms.
Main domain
The main domain, it's often called the root domain in some cases. It's what comes before your.com or other TLD. So YourSite.com, it goes before that.
