They must demonstrate a willingness to negotiate our sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands

Post by monira khatun »

On April 2, 2006, at the ceremony commemorating Veterans' Day and the Fallen in the Malvinas War, President Néstor Kirchner said: "Our citizens, our people, have the common commitment to recover the sovereignty of our islands. That is why today, once again, we reiterate our willingness to resume dialogue with the United Kingdom. It will be a dialogue between democracies aimed at addressing and resolving a controversy that is affecting our relations. It is a process in which we will invest and which will also demand good faith, tenacity, and willingness on the part of the United Kingdom.

The call to the United Kingdom to comply with the c level executive list repeated international call to resume sovereignty negotiations in accordance with the resolutions and declarations of the United Nations and the Organization of American States was reiterated before international and regional organizations and the international community in general. Argentina's ongoing willingness to do so has also been reiterated. At the same time, the Argentine Government reaffirmed its respect for the islanders' way of life guaranteed in the National Constitution and Argentina's commitment to considering their interests, in accordance with United Nations resolutions.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, the Argentine Republic rejects and protests the unilateral British acts in the disputed area, which ignore the provisional understandings under the formula of sovereignty and are contrary to the provisions of United Nations General Assembly Resolution 31/49, which urges the Parties to refrain from introducing unilateral modifications to the situation.
