5 concepts: what Social Media IS

Post by sohanuzzaman56 »

In last week's post we visually reviewed 5 concepts about what Social Media is NOT (don't miss the comments on that post) . The idea was to provide simple concepts about what is not related to Social Media, given the amount of information available that can sometimes create confusion.

With today's post we want to follow that simple line, offering concrete ideas about what is related to Social Media , what can be considered part of Social Media, either in theory or in its application.

1) We have been doing Social Media long before the advent employment data of the Internet ; if not, check out this funny story from the famous ice cream village Scoopville (Spanish subtitles)

2) Social Media is about people (or companies) who, before writing and generating content, listen . They listen to those who are interested in them, those who are interested in them, their environment, others like them, trends, needs, interests.

3) Participating in Social Media requires, after having listened, knowing what you want to say and for what purpose .

4) Participating in Social Media requires consistency, continuity, patience and genuine interest.

5) Finally, and specifically related to the online field that interests us, one of the definitions of Social Media ( from Wikipedia ): group of applications based on the Internet, which are built on the ideological and technological basis of Web 2.0 ( sharing information, collaboration, design focused on the end user, easy access from various channels ), and which allow the creation and exchange of content.

What do you think about these concepts? There are surely many ideas that need to be added to clarify what Social Media really is. Therefore, we look forward to your comments and we also recommend that you take a look at the series Let's Talk About Social Media on Tristán Elosegui's Blog and Predictions for Social Media in 2010 on Marc Cortés's Interactivity Blog.
