Feeling slow internet? In the next 30 days, internet users and websites hosted outside of Brazil, especially in Asian regions, may experience internet latency .
This is because, at the beginning of March, three submarine cables were damaged in the Red Sea – due to military action by the Houthis (a military group linked to Iran that operates in Yemen) in a dispute with the United States.
Therefore, as it is a fully interconnected service , the global internet supply may lithuania phone number library be affected, causing an impact on several services in Brazil, communications and external servers, among other problems.
The main areas affected by slow internet
According to Angola Cables CTO Lucenildo Júnior, the failure could impact the entire internet: “The cables are interconnected. Europe, for example, is having its traffic diverted to Los Angeles, in the United States, and then on to Asia. The internet works, but it is overloaded. Traffic here in South America has been impacted. Fortaleza, where we have 17 submarine cables, is experiencing much greater demand.”
As a result of the problem, much of the international internet traffic to Asia is being carried by submarine cables operated by Angola Cables, through South Africa to Singapore.
“This is a much longer route than the traditional one. This means that latency in data traffic increases. It’s like going somewhere by the longest route. Will you get there? You will, but it will take much longer,” explains Lucenildo.
