Boston Dynamics, which has recently been acquired by Hyundai, has published a video in which humanoid Atlas robots famously overcome a platform with various obstacles — no worse than parkour masters. And at the end — a couple of spectacular back flips.
Atlas is a research project, not a commercial one. Engineers want to “train” the robot to perform the same movements as a human, so that it can also respond to changes in its environment. This could make the robot’s range of potential capabilities “virtually limitless.”
“The advancement of a humanoid robot like Atlas leads to france number data innovations in hardware and software that are applied to all robots at Boston Dynamics.” — Scott Kuinderma, Atlas Division Head
In this video, the robots ran through an obstacle course — jumping over panels, over a beam, and even doing a backflip. You can watch how they trained below.

Robots change their behavior based on what they see in front of them. Engineers don’t need to pre-program jumps for every possible platform and obstacle the robot might encounter. Instead, the team creates fewer behavioral patterns—the robot compares them to the environment and “makes a decision.”
“I find it hard to imagine a world 20 years from now without mobile robots working alongside humans. We’re still in the early stages of creating that future. I hope demonstrations like this give a small glimpse into what robots can do.” — Scott Kuinderma, Atlas Division Manager
