Lower point: Although his parents wanted him to pursue a career in law, Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard University in 1973 to start his own business along with his friend Paul Allen. Despite their common goal, they had many disagreements as to how the business should be handled.

Their first product was a BASIC software that ran on an Altair computer. Fun fact: they didn’t have an Altair computer, nor any drafts of their future software, but they still contacted the Altair’s company, MITS, to see if they would be interested.
It turned out, they absolutely were! That’s how, without any software, they landed their first successful gig that kick-started their company. Lower points: In 1977, MITS was sold to another company, and that left Microsoft on their own. Consequently, in 1979, Microsoft moved to Seattle. High point: By 1980, Bill Gates released a new operating system for IBM called MS-DOS (Microsoft Disk Operating System). That earned him around $16 million.
