According to a study by American psychologists, in which more than 400 people took part, frequent use of Twitter is directly related to narcissism in young people. This is an expected conclusion for an Internet resource that positions itself as a microblog. Another study conducted by scientists from the University of South Carolina showed that Twitter helps people lose weight. 96 people were divided into two groups. In both groups, the study participants listened to a podcast about healthy eating, but in one of them, a Twitter application was downloaded to the smartphones of those losing weight. Members of this group were supposed to exchange tweets daily about their weight loss. After the end of the experiment and processing of its results, it turned out that Twitter users lost weight better than those who did not use the social network.

The emotional content of the messages, their linguistic features indicating the peculiarities of thinking, and references to social connections. The researchers correlated these parameters with the religious views of the users.

It is known that closed religious communities, such as sects, exist for longer periods than non-religious communities based on other principles. In religious organizations, a sense of support and group identity play a big role, so it is not surprising that this tendency was revealed in the study.

Another point that attracts attention is the conditional “level of happiness”. It is inversely related to the analytical nature of tweets. I do not want to repeat hackneyed truths like “woe from wit” or “happiness in ignorance”, since there may be a difference in the social representation of people depending on their views and ways of existence. I do not want to go into religious and existential reasoning on this matter, but I want to note that the happiness of atheists may look different from the concept of happiness that we are accustomed to. Perhaps it is something like “happiness from knowledge”, given the analytical mindset of non-believers.
Twitter has changed the global information landscape, and as a logical consequence, it has changed us. Even if you don’t tweet every day or have hundreds of followers, that’s no reason to deny Twitter its place as one of the most significant phenomena in the modern world.
