Observation
This category of public involvement represents approximately 9% of the initiatives listed (as of June 25, 2019). The public is offered an overview of one or more aspects of the editorial process (choice of topics, production of content, dissemination and promotion, etc.). This gives them observer status, in other words a rather passive role. The media makes an effort to be transparent or even educational through openness mechanisms that nevertheless remain relatively controlled. These are often communication actions on practices, professions, and editorial choices made. They tell and present the behind-the-scenes of the production of information, meeting a strong expectation of the public who are often unaware of how the media work, which they see as black boxes. This category includes initiatives such as editorial visits, open days, opportunities to attend editorial conferences, making-of type content or information education. Digital tools and platforms (such as Facebook Live ) can be used here to offer the user this observer status.
