What types of tests are there?

These are relatively easy to explain. For example, this is a holdout test in which Facebook ads are shown, compared to no ads being shown. Accordingly, there is a test group that sees the treatment (ad) and a control group that does not see the treatment.

Multicellular tests
These are also relatively easy to explain. They are like an A/B test, but with a holdout, i.e. a control group. In this procedure, the various advertising strategies are tested in order to determine the conversion lift within the different strategies.

This is important for your test
Set your budget and duration so that each standard/custom event you want to test delivers at least 100 events (e.g. purchases, leads, content views).
You can calculate the budget and duration roughly like this:
Duration = Past period of the last 100 events of the standard/custom event you want to test under comparable conditions (budget/target group/creative). An additional time frame for post-conversion windows should be taken into account here.
Budget = Take your average cost per conversion that you want to test and calculate it to a statistically significant value, e.g. cost per purchase = €10, which results in an amount of €1,000 for at least 100 purchases (for a significant result). This is just a guideline to gain initial experience with this type of test.
Basically, you can focus your test on different things. This could be just one campaign, several campaigns or your complete advertising measures in one advertising account.
