When choosing a smartphone, users are guided by certain parameters. One of the main ones is the quality of the display, since it is with this important part of the gadget that constant interaction occurs. Manufacturers improve characteristics every year, including in terms of color rendering, response speed and image smoothness. There are even so-called phablets - devices with a large display, something between a phone and a tablet.

Which display type is better for a smartphone, what is the difference between them
The first question that a buyer may have is: which is better – an IPS or an OLED display? An IPS screen literally translates from English as “in-plane switching”. It is a panel with liquid crystals located parallel to it to transmit the image. Under them is a backlight layer, due to which the image is not distorted when the screen is rotated, color rendering suffers less, and brightness and contrast are better. Thanks to the backlight, IPS screens can be conveniently used in bright light.

Advantages of IPS:

durability of crystals;

Flaws:

Such a display can be compared to a thin sandwich of several layers: upper and lower insulation, electrically conductive cathode and anode, between which are located the emitting and conducting layers. Each LED emits light separately from the others, so the screen part responsible for displaying black color can be switched off, unlike IPS, where the backlight cannot be partially switched off.
