We can express sympathy

Post by jrineakter »

Tenth onomatopoeia, it is certainly the most known and least understood onomatopoeia because it has different meanings, it is "oh là là". As I said, it is very well known but not always well understood. It can have several meanings. And to know the meaning of "oh là là", you have to base yourself on the person's intonation.

The first meaning is an appreciation. We are surprised and we appreciate something. For example: "Oh là là! You made us a great meal tonight". You see, the "oh là là" shows here that we are happy, that we feel gratitude, we show appreciation. "Oh là là" can also be used to show that we are angry. "Oh là là! This file is starting to tire me out".

Here you have "oh là là" twice. The first time, when you are happy, when you feel gratitude; the second time, when you are annoyed. So, you have to rely on the intonation to know the meaning of "oh là là".

Another use is sympathy. when we pass iran whatsapp number data someone in the street and say: "Oh my! I'm glad to see you. It's been a long time since we last met." Here, we mark surprise and ultimately joy.

There are many other ways to use "oh là là" and quite often it still involves showing emotion.

And there you have it. Before continuing, summarizing these 10 onomatopoeias, I would like to remind you that there are hundreds and hundreds of them. Today, we have chosen 10 because they seemed to us to be the most relevant, but there are really many others. You may have already heard "youpi", "zut", "plouf", "ouin"...

If you enjoyed it and learned something, don't hesitate to say so in the comments. We could possibly make a volume 2 with other French onomatopoeias. There is a very famous song in France that deals with onomatopoeias, it's Comic strip by Gainsbourg and Bardot. You can listen to it on You Tube to discover other onomatopoeias.

Today we saw "cock-a-doodle-doo", "knock-knock-knock", "boom", "meh", "shush", "phew", "oops", "ouch" and "ouch", "cheers" and "oh là là".
